One great option for people considering purchasing a laptop is the refurbished computer market. A refurbished computer is simply a machine that was returned to the factory, either as a return or as a broken item. That machine is then examined and returned to optimal working condition and put up for sale. While refurbished computers can be bargains, you must consider where you're purchasing your computer. Many small companies will invest in large numbers of broken machines sold in bulk, then after fixing the apparent weaknesses, they will attempt to sell these refurbished laptops.
When buying a used laptop from these smaller companies, you have no guarantees or reassurance that they can stand behind their work. While I support the small company, I hesitate to recommend their refurbished units.
The other option for a refurbished laptop is the original manufacturer. This, in my opinion, is the better option. Broken laptops are returned to the factory where they were made. The workers here have an intimate knowledge of this computer's components, as well a warehouse full of parts designed for use in these machines.
When the broken parts are replaced, this computer, for all intents and purposes, is as good as new. To make this option even more enticing, most manufacturers will offer a warranty on this refurbished unit. A factory refurbished computer is practically as good as a new model.
If you are in the market for a laptop, go to the manufacturer who makes the model you want. Check their stock and see if they have a refurbished version of your laptop. Buying this factory refurbished unit can results in hundreds of dollars in savings..
9 Basic Features You Should Consider Before Buying Your Next Laptop
Laptops are the natural evolution in the ever changing world of the computer. The improvement of technology has allowed the computer to shrink from being as big as a house, to the size of book.Their compactness, and portability makes the laptop particularly useful to the professional, the person on the go, and the student. However, laptops can get rather expensive so you should take care to choose a laptop with the right amount of features, but not so many that they needlessly inflate the price. Here are 9 basic features that you should consider before you purchase your next laptop: 1. Weight and Size: When it comes to weight and size, you should consider that the bigger a laptop is, the heavier it is. A small enough size should be chosen, but not so small that it's uncomfortable.
The smaller the laptop, the more awkward it will be to type on that tiny keyboard.2. Display: The display, or screen is directly tied in to the size of the laptop. You should choose the biggest display...

Laptops Guide: Choosing a Laptop that is Right for You
Most of us tend to think of laptops in the same way: a fairly small portable computer that can open and close like a suitcase, with all of the capabilities of a desktop. In fact, the term "laptop" is really very generic. There are currently four main styles of these portable PCs, each offering something a bit different, depending upon your specific needs.Ultralights ? Also known as sub-notebooks or ultraportables, this style of laptop weighs up to ? but no more than ? four pounds, making them ideal for travelers. The upside of an ultralight is that it doesn't burden those who have to spend a lot of time carrying them with aching muscles, as its larger cousins often do. The downside, however, is that ? in order to cut down on the size and weight ? this type of laptop is so small that there's no room for a network card or internal CD drive.
In order to reap the benefits of these types of "attachments," you'd have to bring an external CD drive and port replicator. Another negative...
Laptops Guide: Choosing a Laptop that is Right for You
Used Laptops
A laptop computer provides the functionality of a personal computer with the advantage of portability. For many computer users, especially students and business professionals, the need for a computer's processing power may arise in locations other than your home. A desktop just can't help in a boardroom or classroom, not to mention in a hotel room away from home. Portable technology is becoming a necessity for a greater percentage of the population. However, the benefits of portability come with the drawbacks of increased price.
Manufacturing costs go up substantially when you miniaturize the various components for a laptop. This is why purchasing a new laptop just isn't an option for many people. Investing over $1,000 for a good notebook, or around $600 for a mediocre laptop is a tough set of options for someone on a budget. This is why the used laptop market is booming.
A new laptop, like a new car, loses a chunk of its retail value after that first use, and often...
Used Cheap Laptops
The used laptop market has been expanding for years. In its current state, there are hundreds of companies of various sizes offering used laptops at unbelievable prices. It seems like a buyers market out there, but before you buy one of these apparent bargains, you should ask yourself why are the laptops so cheap. Obviously, there must be a reason.
You may be inclined to doubt the quality of the product, but there are legitimate reasons for a laptop to be sold cheap.
First, maybe the laptop has just become obsolete. Obsolete doesn't mean it's useless. When Apple came out with their MacBook, previous Apple PowerBooks became essentially obsolete. The PowerBooks technology had shifted so drastically that the majority of users were unloading their old laptops for the newer, better version. This means there were powerful laptops only a few months old that consumers were selling quickly so they could buy a new MacBook.
Also, demand for PowerBooks was lower, because...

Used cheap laptops - Buyer Beware
If you were going to buy a used car, you would take a look at the engine, check to see how many miles it had been driven, look for any dents and probably you would ask the owner why they were selling it, what problems it has had in the past, and how it has been renovated over the years. Just like you would do a background check on a used car, if you are thinking of buying a used laptop, you need to know what it has been through.
You can save a lot of money by purchasing a used laptop, but a computer's history is a lot more elusive than a car's. A refurbished laptop computer is one that was sold to a customer but sent back to the manufacturer because of problems, and finally fixed in a factory to be sent back to a store to be resold. Used cheap laptops are different than this and they are rarely accompanied with a warranty.
Used cheap laptops are a risky investment - maybe someone simply ditched their laptop because they no longer had any need for it or...
